Outfit inspo for every occasion—date nights, work events, girls’ nights out, workouts, and everyday life.

The Beginning of a Big Love

It’s been just over two weeks since our wedding day, and I finally feel ready to share what it was really like to plan it all.

When Jared and I got engaged last October, we had no idea how much would go into planning a destination wedding — the decisions, the emotions, the countless spreadsheets. But if there’s one thing I knew, it was that I didn’t want a traditional ballroom or anything that didn’t feel us.

From the very beginning, we both knew we wanted to create an experience — not just a ceremony. Something timeless, romantic, and full of character.

Choosing a Destination

By January, we were deep into location research: Italy, Canada, Colorado, New York — you name it, we looked at it.

There was even a moment I was convinced we’d found the one in upstate New York. The venue was a literal castle on Heart Island (yes, that’s the real name). But logistically, it became impossible — ceremonies only, freezing temperatures, multiple boats required.

Then my sister Giovi mentioned Mexico City. At first, I said no. But after a little convincing — and explaining to Jared that it offered the same European charm without the nine-hour flight — we booked a scouting trip.

Twenty-one venues later, we found it.
Palacio Metropolitano.

Built in the 1870s, it carries the romance of Versailles but with the soul of Mexico. The French-inspired architecture, soaring ceilings, and intricate detailing instantly captured our hearts. The best part? It didn’t need heavy décor — the venue itself was the statement.

Why October 12

Timing was everything.
We knew we wanted a long weekend to make travel easier for family and friends, and Sunday, October 12 landed perfectly on the Columbus Day / Indigenous Peoples’ Day weekend.
Schools and banks were closed Monday, giving our guests an extra travel day — and giving us the perfect excuse to stretch the celebration into a full weekend.

The Reality of a Destination Wedding

Planning a wedding abroad sounds dreamy — and it truly was — but it also comes with a few realities no one prepares you for.

We made three separate trips to Mexico City before the big day: one for venue scouting, another for hotel blocks and logistics, and one for tastings, makeup and hair trials, and final meetings.

Since our venue wasn’t attached to a hotel or resort, we had to source each vendor ourselves — florals, rentals, lighting, catering, photography, and entertainment. That’s where having planners you deeply trust becomes everything.

And a little note on finances — currency conversions can be tricky. Sending international wire transfers is nerve-wracking, even with the best team. Always verify vendor legitimacy, use secure contracts, and stage payments over time.

Tools That Made It Easier

If you’re planning a destination wedding, these tools truly saved us:

  • Joint Gmail account & shared calendar — We lived in that inbox! Every meeting, file, and guest list lived there.
  • Zola — The MVP. We managed RSVPs, meal selections, our registry, and even our digital Save the Dates through it.
  • Postable — A lifesaver for collecting addresses and sending thank-you cards directly through the site.
  • WhatsApp — Our main communication tool for guests while abroad.

Guest List & RSVP Surprises

Our planners reminded us early on that roughly 20% of invitees won’t attend, and they were right. We invited around 390 guests and ended up with 170 — the perfect size for a destination wedding.

A month before the event, our planners recommended hiring an external team to reconfirm RSVPs, and I’m so glad we did. Even confirmed guests sometimes change plans, and those updates helped us adjust our catering count and save significantly.

The key takeaway: Don’t take declines personally — life happens.

Styling the Weekend

Fashion was one of my favorite parts of the process — and the most personal. I didn’t go into it with a “bridal vision,” but each event became a chance to tell a different story through style.

🌸 Bridal Shower: Feminine florals and soft shimmer.
🌴 Bachelorette: Playful resort glam for our “Wife Lotus” weekend.
Rehearsal Dinner: Structured sophistication with subtle sparkle.
🤍 Wedding Morning: A sentimental robe, hair pinned, butterflies everywhere.
💫 Ceremony: Lace, pearls, long sleeves, and a removable overskirt — timeless and completely me.
💃 Second Look: Sleek and modern for the dance floor.

Every piece was thoughtfully chosen — not just for beauty, but for how it made me feel.

And for those asking — yes, I’ll be selling select pieces from my bridal era (including looks from my shower, rehearsal dinner, and more) on our site soon. Each piece has a story, and I can’t wait for them to find a new home.

What I’d Do Differently

  • Start tracking your budget in one place from day one.
  • Use Zola’s contact collector early — it simplifies everything later.
  • Don’t try to manage your guest list alone.
  • Schedule downtime the week of the wedding (you’ll need it!).
  • And most importantly: be present.

After the “I Do”

Once the big day passed, I realized how meaningful the small details were — things like scent, song, and texture.

I’m even having my bouquet preserved — possibly pressed and framed or cast in resin — as a keepsake to remember that feeling forever.

It’s the perfect reminder that beauty doesn’t fade; it just transforms.

Final Thoughts

Planning our wedding wasn’t just about creating a beautiful event — it was about creating space for joy, for connection, and for the people we love most.

Mexico City gave us history, charm, and heart.
Palacio Metropolitano gave us our setting.
But love — our families, our friends, and each other — gave it life.

If you’re a bride-to-be, my best advice is simple:
✨ Don’t aim for perfection — aim for presence.

From New Moms to Single Men—Why a Closet Detox Is the Gift That Keeps on Giving

We’ve all been there: standing in front of a packed closet, wondering why it feels like there’s still nothing to wear. What we don’t always realize is that disorganized spaces lead to disorganized mornings—and a disorganized mindset. When your closet is cluttered, it’s harder to start the day with clarity.

At Sisterly Known, we believe an organized closet is more than a luxury—it’s a tool for living with intention. When everything is visible, accessible, and aligned with your lifestyle, the simple act of getting dressed becomes something you look forward to. You feel more grounded, confident, and in control before the day even begins.

Whether you’re entering a new chapter or gifting someone who is, our Closet Detox and VIP Closet Makeover sessions aren’t just about organizing hangers—they’re about helping people feel more like themselves again.

Why Closet Organization Is the Ultimate Gift

For New Grads
They’re building their first adult wardrobe—and life. We help them part ways with college clutter and create a closet that sets them up to feel polished and prepared for job interviews, new routines, and real-life dressing.

For New Moms
Between the night feedings, body changes, and endless multitasking, moms need all the support they can get. We help simplify their wardrobe so they can get dressed in five minutes and still feel like themselves—comfortable, confident, and seen.

For Brides-to-Be
With bachelorette trips, bridal showers, and the honeymoon ahead, wardrobe chaos is real. We bring calm to the whirlwind and help brides feel collected, confident, and styled for each special moment.

For New Homeowners or Downsizers
A new space means new energy. We help them start fresh with thoughtful organization that works for the layout they now call home.

For the Self-Care Lover
A calm closet is an underrated form of wellness. We create systems that reduce decision fatigue and invite peace into one of the most-used spaces in your home.

For Single Men Ready to Step It Up
Let’s be honest—style confidence starts in the closet. We help men simplify, upgrade, and define their look with practical systems and elevated basics that reflect who they are (and who they’re becoming).

♻️ Included with Every Package

We don’t just organize—we help you let go. Every closet package includes the removal and donation of unwanted items, so you can feel lighter, more focused, and confident that your clothes are being rehomed responsibly through our trusted local partners.

Why It Matters

An organized closet isn’t just about appearance—it’s about alignment. It reflects how you care for yourself, how you start your day, and how you show up in the world. When you can actually see what you own, you rediscover the clothes you forgot you loved. You make faster decisions. You dress with clarity and purpose.

It’s about more than clothes. It’s about feeling like you again.

Give a Gift That Transforms

Let’s be honest—most gifts end up in a drawer or returned. But giving someone a reset they’ll feel every single day? That’s something else entirely.

Closet organization is the kind of gift that keeps giving—long after the session is over. It makes someone’s morning routine smoother, their style more confident, and their space more peaceful. Whether it’s a personal splurge or a group gift from friends, it’s a powerful way to say:
“You deserve to feel like the best version of yourself.”

Perfect for Group Gifting:

Want to gift it as a group? We can create a custom card or email note for you to share. Just mention it in your consultation.

  • Bridal Showers or Bachelorette Groups
Help the bride organize her closet pre-wedding—or post-honeymoon. It’s the perfect companion to all those new white outfits.
  • Milestone Birthdays (30, 40, 50, etc.)
A meaningful and personalized gift for someone entering a new decade.
  • Housewarmings or First Apartments
Give the gift of setup support when someone’s starting fresh.
  • New Moms or Moms-to-Be
Paired with postpartum essentials or a wellness basket, it’s a reminder that she matters too.
  • Job Changes or Career Shifts
Help them feel polished and prepared for whatever’s next.
  • Holiday Gifts for Bosses or Teams
Skip the generic gift cards. Whether it’s a thoughtful gesture from the team or a Secret Santa splurge, a closet refresh is a unique, elevated way to show appreciation during the holidays.

A clear closet creates space for a clear mind. When everything has a place—and you can actually see and love what you own—getting dressed becomes a confident, intentional ritual instead of a stressful scramble. Whether you’re gifting to a new grad, a new mom, a newly single friend, your boss, or yourself, this isn’t just about hangers and bins. It’s about giving someone the tools to step into their day (and their life) with more ease, more clarity, and a little more joy.

If The Sunday Slowdown had a wardrobe, this would be it. This season we’re reaching for pieces that feel effortless, breathable, and just a little bit playful. Think coastal silks, comfy sandals that still turn heads, and accessories that make even a white tank feel intentional.

Whether you’re packing for a trip or dressing for your 11 a.m. coffee run, these are the pieces we’re styling on repeat — plus the ones in our carts that we’re still dreaming about.
